So YouTube, part of Google purchased a year ago after less than one year in operation, has decided to create localized version of its Web video publishing service. Other countries were first, now it's Canada's turn.
And what does Youtube.ca offers more to Canadians? Localized ads and that's about it. The biggest failure of Youtube.ca is the lack of French service and interface for users and visitors. Last time I checked, Canada was officially a bilingual country.
If Google and YouTube really cared about making a good product for Canadians, they would have made sure a complete and decent working French version of Youtube was available to 1/4 of Canadians... Any company who claims to be a national service provider for Canadians that fails to offer anything in French is not really a national provider or a company with deep interests in Canada, besides the strong dollar.
So I'll pass Youtube.ca, until they offer something all Canadians can find useful.
